The 30-minute intro call
Every relationship starts with a conversation. There's nothing to prepare and nothing to sign — just half an hour to talk through what's happening in your organization and whether we can help. Here's how the time is usually spent:
- 0–5 min
Getting acquainted
Who you are, what your organization does, and how many people it takes to do it.
- 5–20 min
What's prompting the call
The issue on your desk today, plus the ones in the back of your mind. Nothing is too small or too messy.
- 20–30 min
Honest next steps
Our candid view of where to focus first, and whether a Health Check, a project, or ongoing support makes sense. If you don't need us, we'll say so.
Helpful to have handy
- A rough headcount, and whether it’s growing
- The HR question or worry that prompted you to reach out
- Anything you already have in place — even if it’s out of date
None of it is required.
You'll walk away with
- A clearer picture of your biggest HR priorities
- A recommendation on where to start
- A follow-up email summarizing what we discussed
Step 02 · Recommended
The HR Health Check: an expert look under the hood
Most organizations know something isn't quite right but can't say exactly what. The Health Check gives you that answer. We review how HR actually works in your organization today — across People, Culture, Leadership, and Strategy — and turn what we find into a short, prioritized plan.
- Findings for each of the four pillars, in plain English
- Compliance gaps against employment standards, flagged by risk
- A one-page action plan, prioritized: now, next, and later
- A walkthrough meeting to answer questions and agree on next steps
How it works
- Part 1
Kick-off
We agree on scope, timing, and who we should talk to.
- Part 2
Review
We go through your contracts, handbook, policies, and HR records.
- Part 3
Conversations
Short, confidential chats with leaders and, where it helps, a few staff.
- Part 4
Findings & plan
A plain-English report and one-page action plan, walked through together.
$750–$1,500 + HST
Priced to the size of your organization. Credited in full against your first invoice if you continue into a partnership. Prefer a focus on engagement and leadership? Ask about the People & Culture Health Check.
Pulse Check or Health Check?
One is a quick self-assessment; the other is a professional review. Plenty of clients do the first, then book the second.

Once we're working together
Grounded in practice. Guided by principle.
HR advice is only useful if it can actually be implemented. Every engagement follows the same four-step process, adapted to the size and pace of your organization.
- 01
Discover
We start by understanding your organization: how it runs today, where HR shows up (or doesn't), and what's actually keeping you up at night.
Your intro call and Health Check
- 02
Advise
You get clear, honest recommendations grounded in employment law and best practice — with the reasoning explained, not just a checklist.
Your action plan and roadmap
- 03
Implement
We build and roll out the policies, processes, or programs together, sized appropriately for your team and resources.
A project or monthly partnership
- 04
Support
HR needs don't stop after a project wraps. Ongoing or on-demand support is there for what comes next.
Retainer, On Call, or by the hour
What we look at
The four pillars behind every engagement
Whatever brings you to us, we look at it through these four lenses — because a people problem is rarely only about one of them.
People
Stronger teams.
The everyday work of hiring, managing, and supporting the people who make your organization run.
Sound familiar?
We've hired four people this year and none of them has a job description.
I'm not sure we're paying people fairly — or how we'd even know.
How we help
- Hiring and onboarding that sets new staff up to succeed
- Clear roles, job descriptions, and reporting lines
- Performance conversations and reviews that actually get used
- Compensation structures that are fair and defensible
- Careful handling of investigations, accommodations, and terminations
- Employment-standards compliance, kept current
In a Health Check: Employment contracts, job descriptions, onboarding, pay practices, and how performance is handled today.
Culture
Healthier workplaces.
How it feels to work at your organization — built deliberately, not left to chance.
Sound familiar?
Our handbook was downloaded from the internet in 2017.
Good people are leaving and we're not entirely sure why.
How we help
- A handbook and policies that reflect how you really work
- Engagement and culture check-ins, read with care
- Respectful-workplace and harassment-prevention programs
- Health & safety: committees, inspections, and a lasting safety culture
- Recognition and feedback rhythms that don’t feel forced
- Steady change management through growth or restructuring
In a Health Check: Your handbook and core policies, respectful-workplace and health & safety obligations, and the signals in turnover.
Leadership
Confident decisions.
Helping founders and managers lead people with clarity, consistency, and confidence.
Sound familiar?
I promoted my best person to manager and now they're struggling.
There's a conversation I've been putting off for three months.
How we help
- Coaching for new and first-time managers
- Preparation for difficult conversations
- Manager training workshops tailored to your team
- Clear accountability and decision-making
- Succession planning for key roles
- A trusted sounding board for founders and executives
In a Health Check: Who makes people decisions, how consistently they are made, and where managers need more support.
Strategy
Lasting impact.
HR that supports where your business is headed, not just where it's been.
Sound familiar?
We're planning to double in size and HR is an afterthought.
We don't know what we don't know about compliance.
How we help
- HR audits and compliance gap analysis
- Workforce planning tied to business goals
- Organizational design and restructuring
- A practical 12–24 month HR roadmap
- People metrics and quarterly reporting to leadership
- HR processes and systems that scale with you
In a Health Check: How your people plans line up with business goals, and which gaps carry the most risk if left alone.
Questions about getting started
Is the intro call really free?
Yes. It's 30 minutes, there's no obligation, and it isn't a sales pitch. If what you need is outside what we do, we'll point you in a better direction.
Do I have to start with a Health Check?
No. It's the starting point we recommend when you're not sure where the gaps are, but if you already know what you need — a handbook rewrite, help with a difficult termination — we can go straight to that.
What does the Health Check cost, and what happens to that fee?
Between $750 and $1,500, depending on the size of your organization and how much ground it covers. If you move into an ongoing partnership, the fee is credited against your first invoice. (It isn’t combinable with prepay discounts.)
What if I only need help with one thing?
That’s fine. Book time by the hour at $225, or have a defined piece of work scoped and quoted as a fixed-fee project. No retainer required.
Am I locked into a contract?
Retainers are month-to-month, with 30 days' notice to change. Commitment discounts are available if you'd like to commit for longer, but they're optional.
The first step is a conversation.
Thirty minutes, no cost, no obligation. You'll leave with a clearer sense of where your HR stands and what to do next — whether or not we work together.
